Coaches’ Notes:

Big congrats to everyone who laid it on the line and threw down for the first two WOD’s of the CrossFit Open!

Make sure you are giving yourself credit for your hard work.  Btw, you may not finish every WOD that CrossFit HQ throws at you.

Quick story… I remember doing 13.2 (burpee/Snatch ladder with weight increasing with each set) with Coach Jerry last year and hitting a brick wall as we moved up in weight on the snatches.  I literally couldn’t do the snatch at a given point.  The weight increase at this stage of the WOD was substantial enough to prevent me from getting it over head.  The worst part was there was still time left!

I was at a loss and couldn’t believe it.  But, I had let my mind go somewhere that is very common during the open…

Sometimes we focus on what we didn’t do as opposed to what we just accomplished.  Remember these are elite work outs.  The Open is all inclusive, but that doesn’t mean the WOD’s will be easy.  You and Rich Froning are doing the same WOD.   His score may be better, but it’s still the same work out.

You wouldn’t get frustrated about not getting a home run if you were thrust onto the Phillies line up.  You’d keep things in perspective and if you got a base hit, well, that would be something to be thrilled about.  Strange analogy, but you get my point.

Stay positive.  Get your rest and eat well after these WOD’s.  Be proud if you gave it your best.  And, like I always say, enjoy the work outs.   You can have fun while competing at the same time!

Before I go, I want to give a big thank you to all of the coaches, judges and members who are helping and supporting those doing the Open.
