An athlete his whole life (gymnastics, weightlifting, martial arts), Coach JD brings a wealth of knowledge to his CrossFit classes and Strength and Conditioning Training.

JD trained and coached for 9 years in Los Angeles…at Equinox Headquarters, as well as representing Daddis MMA and Fitness’ west coast satellite program on the beaches of Santa Monica and Venice, and in the canyons at Runyon in West Hollywood. In this capacity he had the opportunity to train some of the west coast’s top athletes from all sorts of specialities and disciplines.

As product of the fitness industry’s movement away from functionality and towards bodybuilding during the 80’s and 90’s, JD developed a debilitating unbalance in his hips and back (along with a heavy dose of athletics complicating matters) that ultimately led him to Anterior Interbody Spinal Fusion surgery 5 years ago.

After facing the grim reality of possibly being fairly immobile and a life of constant pain, JD is now, only 5 years later, deadlifting twice his body weight and can do pullups for days (okay maybe for a minute or two but nonetheless!)…A personal testament to the rehabilitative power of CrossFit, of how rebalancing the body in different planes of motions (not just the ones that pump up our biceps!) can bring back a level of functionality to everyday life never expected.

AND CF has provided a means for this 41 year old to compete in a forum that’s safe and fun!

JD’s classes are high energy, full of camaraderie, with a dose of loud music, and heavy on technique, technique, technique. Oh and no complacency allowed!
