- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt/Competitor
As a child, Mekella’s sport of choice was dancing. Over the years, however, she fell in love with Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. In 2007 she started training at Daddis MMA at one of the older locations on Juniper Street in Philadelphia. She began with Muay Thai kickboxing, as she was initially nervous about rolling with the sweaty guys. It wasn’t long, however, until she felt like a part of the Daddis Athletics family. Mekella decided to give Brazillian Jiu Jitsu a try. Immediately she fell in love and earned her blue belt!
When the company presented the idea of bringing CrossFit to their array of offered programs, she thought, “No way normal people do this! This stuff is for beasts! My bad back can’t handle this!” She finally gave CrossFit a try after much convincing. Even though she still was second guessing her ability after the first workout, she was instantly hooked. Soon enough, Mekella found herself relieved of her chronic back pain and felt great!
From there, Mekella continued to excel with Daddis Athletics, becoming a great asset to the team! She is currently a director for Daddis Athletics, while also working as CrossFit assistant instructor. Daddis Athletics have given her many great memories, but one stands out above the rest. Here, she met the love of her life, her fiancé and Vice President of the company, Bob Peach.
